Before you reinstall anything, paste the playlist URL into a browser. That single step splits the problem in half and takes ten seconds.
If the browser downloads a file starting with #EXTM3U, the playlist is fine and your player is the fault. If you get 401, 403 or 404, the URL or the account is the fault and no player will fix it.
Then check for paste damage
Messaging apps turn & into line breaks and leave trailing spaces. Copy from the panel, paste into a plain text field first, then into the app.
Case matters
Xtream usernames and passwords are case-sensitive. Nova and nova are different accounts and the second returns 401. Mobile keyboards autocapitalise the first letter — that alone accounts for a lot of “it worked yesterday”.
Use the Xtream fields instead of the URL
Host, username, password in three separate boxes. The app builds the URL and there is nothing to mangle. This is the recommended way to add a line and the one that survives updates.
The size ceiling is real
An 8 to 15 MB playlist with 12,000 entries gets truncated by cheap players and older TVs. It loads partially, or not at all, and looks like a broken URL. Use something with a proper database — TiviMate, IPTV Smarters Pro, OTT Navigator — and trim to favourites.
Loads on one device, fails on the second
You are at the connection limit. The entry plan allows one stream. Nothing to debug.
Or the line is dead
Expired lines return 401 on the playlist while the panel still shows the account. Check the expiry date before anything else.
What the codes on the playlist URL mean
401 is credentials or expiry. 403 is usually a blocked IP or an exhausted connection count. A 404 means the path changed — the panel was updated and the old URL is dead. A timeout is the network. Each of those has a different fix, and only one of them is worth retyping a password for.
Two players that survive a big list
TiviMate and OTT Navigator both index the playlist into a database instead of holding it in memory. If you are on a 12,000-channel line and a cheap player, that is the upgrade that ends the problem. Smarters Pro works too, but only on a device with real storage headroom.
If the browser test returned 401 and the password is definitely right, it is an account question, not a player question: ask support.
FAQ
Why does the same URL work on my phone and not the TV?
Either the TV player truncates a large playlist, or you are at the connection limit. Try a fifty-channel list first, then count how many streams are open.
Is the playlist URL case-sensitive?
Yes. Usernames and passwords on Xtream panels are case-sensitive, and one capitalised first letter is enough to return 401.
How big is a normal playlist?
8 to 15 MB for a 12,000-channel line. Players that hold it in memory instead of a database will truncate it.
