LG TV IPTV Not Working: The webOS App Is the Usual Suspect

Short answerOn an LG TV the fault is almost always the app, not the account. webOS only installs from the LG Content Store, the store build of IPTV players is stripped, and a stale login presents as a wrong password. Re-login first, then check the EPG URL.

On an LG television the problem is almost never the account. It is the app, and usually the app store build of it. webOS is locked down, so you are stuck with whatever LG’s Content Store hands you, and for IPTV that is a cut-down player with a smaller feature set than the Android version.

The app will not install

webOS only installs from the LG Content Store. There is no APK sideloading on an LG TV, so if the app is not in the store for your region, you cannot force it on. Check the TV’s country setting under Settings → General → Location, because the store catalog changes with region and a mismatched country hides the app entirely.

It installs but will not load the playlist

The store build of most IPTV players cannot import a large playlist. The guide stays empty or the channel list never populates, and it looks like a dead account when the line is fine. Trim the playlist to favourites, or add the line with the three Xtream fields (host, username, password) instead of the full M3U.

Channels play but the guide is blank

The XMLTV URL is missing or wrong. Open it in a browser on the same network to confirm it returns XML, then paste it into the app’s EPG field. A blank guide on an LG is rarely the guide being down; it is usually the field never being filled in.

The app crashes mid-stream

webOS is aggressive about killing background processes, and a large playlist plus the guide is too much for it on older sets. Reboot the TV from the settings menu (not the power button, which is standby), and if the crash recurs, an external Android box running the full player is the honest fix.

A note that saves an hour

Log out and back in once before you report anything. A stored login that has gone stale on webOS presents as “wrong password” on a correct account, and a single re-login clears it more often than not.

Step-by-step setup for LG and everything else is in the tutorial section. If a fresh login still fails, send the app name and the error: contact page.

FAQ

Can I sideload an IPTV app on an LG TV?

No. webOS only installs from the LG Content Store. If the app is missing, check the TV's country setting under Settings → General → Location.

Why is the guide blank on my LG TV?

The XMLTV URL is missing or wrong. Open it in a browser to confirm it returns XML, then paste it into the app's EPG field.

Why does the app keep crashing on my LG?

webOS kills background processes aggressively, and a large playlist plus the guide is too much on older sets. Reboot from the settings menu, or use an external Android box.
